PETA on Lady Gaga’s Meat Dress costume

Posted on 16 September 2010 by Ariane Richelle A. Villanueva

MTV VMA 2010 has been concluded this year including Lady Gaga who won at least eight awards including Best Female Video. Unfortunately, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) didn’t liked her eccentric dress during the MTV VMA 2010.

PETA, already issued their statement regarding the Meat Dress worn by Lady Gaga during the MTV Video Music Awards. From their statement,

What's your thought about Gaga's meat dress?

PETA said, “Meat is the decomposing flesh of a tormented animal who didn’t want to die, and after a few hours under the TV lights, it would smell like the rotting flesh it is and likely be crawling in maggots — not too attractive, really,” PETA president Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement. “No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal, Meat represents bloody violence and suffering, so if that’s the look they were going for, they achieved it.”

Franc Fernandez who designed Gaga’s meat dress said from his Twitter that, “The way it was cut & fitted to her body was AMAZING ! Meat purse was genius ! As an art piece, it was astonishing! No moral Judgement!,”.

Gaga who also aired her side through Ellen DeGeneres Show saying “It is a devastation to me that I know my fans who are gay … feel like they have governmental oppression on them. That’s actually why I wore the meat tonight.” Just a reiteration of her statement during the VMA, referring to the US military’s  “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. De Generes seems un-satisfied with Gaga’s explanation, the talk show host is also a vegan and vegetarian at that.

What can you say about Lady Gaga’s dress? Is really that offensive ? Will this meat dress be the most weird costume an artist have ever worn? Share your opinion.
